杰克曾经一度与动物有着某种无法说清的感应，于是利用自己的这种本事开了一家宠物心理咨询中心。自从见到富翁温沙先生的狗“幸运"之后，他早已失去的感应又重新回到他的身上。富翁过世了，遗嘱中他把自己所有的财产，都留给他的狗“幸运"，还有能够与狗友好相处的杰克，但是要他来大宅与狗同住。然而，富翁的三位侄儿、侄女，原本以为这回富翁叔叔过世，他们可以瓜分他的6400万遗产，没想到他们的希望完全落空，自私、贪婪的几个人不肯轻易放弃，他们雇用了私家侦探，目的要找出杰克不配做信托人的过失，以便让他们能够重新夺回遗产。另一方面，杰克原本就和“幸运"有着不可思议的沟通能力和默契的心理呼应，连他自己都不知道该如何自制，每当“幸运"激动的时候，杰克也变得和狗一样，疯狂地吵闹、撒欢，把一切都搞得一塌糊涂。过后他居然一无所知，更不知道对时刻寻找他的过失，正在暗中窥探他的一举一动的家伙们存有戒心。

After a short split prologue showing riches as the root of evil in ancient and modern times, the film settles into 1914 France, where the Orient Express is about to be wrecked when a bridge washes out.
